Here’s to the Man Words and Music by Tim Horrigan 1. Here’s to the man with the coonskin cap With the belt and the buckle and the hook and the snap Trees will shake when he makes up his mind Give him any problem and he will find A way a way a way A way a way a way A way a way a way 2. Here’s to the man sailed across the sea Searching this land for his destiny Knocking on doors going row to row Bet your bottom dollar that they told him to go Away away away Away away away Away away away BRIDGE: To all my friends who try to make it I wish you well Like they told Harry Truman Give ‘em hell! I Will See You Again Words and Music by Tim Horrigan I’ve been Walking under starlight Turn around there’s nobody’s there Running, chasing after something That fades in thin air I’m always looking for your shadow I always end up holding moonglow But I gotta believe I will see you again I see A candle in the window I’ll stand and watch till it’s gone Singing softly in the shadows the words to our song I know that you hear me I see the flickering flame dancing near me and I wanna believe I will see you again I’ve been Knocking at your window Could be branches in the breeze Hey now, hearing that melody floating through the trees And though we can’t be together It won’t be that way forever For I know in my heart I will see you again Copyright 2022 Buck Young Music

The Communion of Saints Words and Music by Tim Horrigan From a balcony higher than any can see They’re calling a meeting of great urgency The bell it has sounded, the crowd it assembles To watch over me in my stumbles and rambles They gather in ranks though I can’t see their faces Glowing in light; dressed in cool graces Beacons so bright, they’ve never been wrong Boniface, Anthony, Joseph and John In that skyful dome Michelangelo paints Watching over my life The Communion of Saints Every step that I take is approved by that crew All my false moves in my two left shoes I don’t have to guess where to turn as I roam For they’ve been here before and they know the way home There’s a beauty so vast It might cause me to faint But I’m lifted again, and again by The Communion of Saints Gabriel, Raphael, Michael and Barnabas The Communion of Saints James and Andrew, Brendan and David The Communion of Saints Mary, Matthew, Luke and Anne The Communion of Saints Silas and Titus, Veronica, Timothy The Communion of Saints Barbara, Ursula, Thomas and Brigit The Communion of Saints Blaise and Damian, Gregory, Francis The Communion of Saints Claire and Teresa, Oscar Romero Copyright 2022 Buck Young Music (BMI)

Sea Shanty #23 Words and Music by Tim Horrigan I had a boat named The Merry Anne Shake her down me hearties I sailed her out of Newfoundland Shake her all the way down With a crew of 10 to the east we set Shake her down me hearties The winter winds hit hard and wet Shake her all the way down Chorus: Call for the fiddle and a dram Captain of this realm I am With these two legs I’ll stand On the mighty north Atlantic We lost Bill when a wave went rogue Shake her down me hearties I’ll miss his jokes and his Irish brogue Shake her all the way down I can’t say Stuart was worth his salt Shake her down me hearties But that lightning strike t’were not his fault Shake her all the way down. Chorus: Call for the fiddle and a dram Captain of this realm I am With these two legs I’ll stand On the mighty north Atlantic The waves they crested through the night Shake her down me hearties We were down to three come the morning light Shake her all the way down The three of us could barely stand Shake her down me hearties Through the glass I swear I saw Greenland Shake her all the way down Chorus: Call for the fiddle and a dram Captain of this realm I am With these two legs I’ll stand On the mighty north Atlantic Copyright 2022 Buck Young Music (BMI)

about

There’s a theme (or two) running through these songs: friendship, desparation, faith and hope. Possibilities. I recommend listening in sequence as these songs are my journey: riding the waves off Seawatch Isle.

“Axel and Rex”
TH: piano, guitar, synth. f/x and drums
I’ve carried a postcard of two German shepherds around with me forever. They’re both sitting attentively against a surreal green background. They’re faithful, like my friends. I wanted to capture a Charles Ives song feel like his “The Greatest Man.” Sung from a kid’s point of view.

“I’m Going Down”
TH: all guitars, vocals, piano, bass, organ, synth horns
Raymond Genovese: drums, cowbell
When I realize what a jerk I’ve been. I picture a trio of demons playing that horn line. And I also picture Robin Trower (who's a demon guitarist) doing the solo. Procol Harum is never far from my turntable, and I am indeed trying to emulate his sound. Listen for the typewriter as it journals the plight of the narrator. Hey, “cute” and “Deluth” almost rhyme!

“Seawatch Isle”
TH: all vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, bass, drums
Paul McIntire: violin
Sometimes I feel like I’ve just got to get out of the house and go somewhere/anywhere. Anybody else have that feeling these past two years? It’s all about facing adversity and one's own limitations. This is the optimistic version of the previous song. I really have a lot of hope. Let those waves wash over me; I’ll still be standing (hopefully).

“Betty O”
TH: all vocals, bass, guitars
Raymond Genovese: drums
Ellis Schweid: fiddle
Betty and I lived in two different worlds. She could not be charmed. She worked at a tattoo parlor and a roller rink…and drove off her “Seawatch Isle” looking for anything other than the life she was living. I couldn’t bring myself to say goodbye to her knowing she would only sneer at me.

“Hooray Rochanne”
TH: vocals, guitar, piano
Chris Maze: background vocals and gorgeous lead vocal at the end!
Probyn Gregory: trumpet
Anne Horrigan: cognitively dissonant trumpets
Jamey Holbrook: bass
Dan Pierini: drums
As a teacher I was always glad when one of my students could “let in the gray” instead of seeing things in just black and white. A special thanks to the amazing Chris Maze for singing the coda. At that point in the song, Rochanne has shut down, as we all feel like doing at times. The discordant trumpets leading into this section were played by Anne and were indeed out of tune on purpose. She's actually an accomplished jazz trumpeter who once studied under Miles Davis. And I am a liar. And another special thanks to my pals Jamey and Dan who make up the rhythm section of this and the following song. Dig Jamey's bass work on the fade out. And Danimal’s always right on time driving the bus.
Dedicated to Janavi!

“Here’s to the Man”
TH: all vocals, lead and rhythm guitars, electric piano
Probyn Gregory: trumpet and trombone
Jamey Holbrook: bass
Dan Pierini: drums
An ode to making it happen. And yes, I used “man” in the title because all those other words didn’t sing as well. Please don't cancel me (actually, go ahead). And we’re ALL trying to “make it” in whatever we’re doing, so yay us!

“The Coastal Train”
TH: all voices, bass, guitar, loops
Anne was riding the Amtrack Surfliner from San Juan Capistrano up to Santa Barbara to see our daughter Rebecca. While she was gone I wrote this song and sent it to her, hoping it would provide a nice soundtrack to her ride as she looked out the window at our beautiful California coast. I put a little Ken Nordine word jazz in the middle just to amuse myself. And I really hope NPR sues me.

“Room 104”
TH: all vocals, piano, bass, drums, guitars
If I had to pick a favorite…
A character study of a guy on the edge, reaching out for help. That being said, I think it’s a pretty fun little song, and I do know a guy who makes his money fixing windshields. And I’ve got a green radio. My attempt to rewrite “Macarthur Park,” as if the world needs it.

“I Will See You Again”
TH: all vocals, piano, organ, guitar, bass, drums and other sounds
This was the last song written for the project. It’s a song in the form of a wish. I started out trying to write a Laura Nyro song but ended up with something more Motown. And post-Covid I really do hope to see you all again!

“The Communion of Saints”
TH: lead and background vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, bodhran, drums
Rebecca Horrigan: bass, chanting
Anne Horrigan: chanting
Emily Horrigan: chanting
I got some health news last year and was seriously at a loss as to how to cope. I stumbled upon an article about Dion (Dion and the Belmonts). He was supposed to be on that plane that crashed with Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Richie Valens. He was wracked with debilitating guilt, and being raised Catholic (as was I), he sought out his parish priest. The priest explained: The Communion of Saints, in addition to all the saints, are all those loved ones who have passed on but still watch over us. Dion found comfort in this and so do I. I have hope. "They’ve been here before and they know the way home.”

"Sea Shanty #23"
TH: vocals and sounds
Anne Horrigan: la la la’s and “Stuart…”
Emily Horrigan: la la la’s and “Stuart…”
Phil Stein, Dave Uselton, Dan Erfurt, and Tony Cinquini (The Jetstones): pirate chorus. The real sailor, Dave, provides the final exhorations.
My daughter Emily said I should do a sea shanty. And she promised to sing on it. She sent me a bunch of songs and, sponge that I am, this is the end result. I really should do a video for this one. I remember one night I went to bed and put on "A Salty Dog" by Procol Harum. Now THAT was a music video, if only in my head. And is it really true that Cape Cod Girls don’t use no combs (they combs their hair with cod fish bones)?
